VIALIBERA! is a project that maps and enhances Tuscany’s walking trails, making accessibility a key feature for an immersive, inclusive experience available for everybody.
We believe that slow travel through these paths, which combine nature and culture, offers an excellent opportunity to promote inclusive tourism. These trails are rich in symbolism and meaning, providing the perfect setting to implement an inclusivity project that allows everyone—whether independently or with a guide—to experience Tuscany’s cultural and natural heritage. This doesn’t mean that everyone’s experience will be the same, but that everyone can connect with the landscape and history of these routes, embracing the true meaning of cultural heritage.
In this trial phase, we’ve mapped stages of the Via Francigena, the Via Lauretana, and the Santa Giulia Path.
To ensure these paths are accessible and engaging for all, Itinera, along with the Tuscany Region, has developed tools to help travelers find accessible routes and services.
We’ve also created a range of informative, engaging, and fun content—such as videos, podcasts, games, and virtual tours—so you can explore the paths anytime, anywhere.
On the website, you’ll find all the results of our mapping efforts, as well as details on routes and services, in sections dedicated to each trail.
Founded in Livorno in 1996, Itinera specializes in managing and promoting cultural heritage throughout Tuscany. Our mission is to create and launch innovative experiences that make cultural sites more accessible, engaging, and open to all, while drawing on the expertise of highly qualified professionals. Thanks to our strong ties to the areas we work in, we foster collaborative networks aimed at improving project initiatives and developing high-quality cultural services.
We recognize that accessibility is dynamic, shaped by people, society, and culture. That’s why we’ve actively involved local communities and organizations in this project, working together to cultivate a shared understanding of accessibility as a common good for all.
