Via Lauretana

Retracing ancient Etruscan-Roman trade routes that have become spiritual pilgrimage destinations.

The Via Lauretana is a path in Tuscany that, crossing the Val d'Orcia and Valdichiana, connects Siena to Cortona and has gradually become a route for spiritual pilgrimage.

This is an ancient Etruscan-Roman trade and military route that, over time, evolved into a spiritual pilgrimage path. Along the way, you will encounter medieval traces within churches, chapels, and Marian shrines, retracing the footsteps of artists, merchants, and pilgrims.

Today, the Via Lauretana is a five-stage itinerary designed for those who wish to rediscover evocative spiritual paths or prefer the cultural aspects of pilgrimages and slow travel.
Here you will explore the final stage of the Via Lauretana in Tuscany, from Valiano to Cortona, where the route intersects with the Strada Romea Germanica and the Sentiero della Bonifica.

The path reveals parish churches, ancient Leopoldine farms, olive groves, and vineyards, with splendid panoramic views over the Valdichiana, eventually reaching the picturesque historic center of Cortona.
